Galaxy Team Notes

LAST TIME VS. CHIVAS USA: The Galaxy claimed a 3-1 win over Chivas USA in the two sides' first meeting at The Home Depot Center on April 28. Landon Donovan, Kevin Harmse and Cobi Jones all scored for the Galaxy on that night as LA collected its seventh win in nine regular season matches against Chivas USA. Donovan and Harmse scored nine minutes apart to give the Galaxy a 2-0 lead inside the game's opening 20 minutes. Claudio Suarez struck back for Chivas early in the second half but Cobi Jones came off the bench to kill the game off with his first goal of the year in the 78th minute, giving the Galaxy the 3-1 win.

SUPER IN THE SUPER CLÁSICO: Sunday sees the return of the Honda Super Clásico to The Home Depot Center. LA, who won each of the first two Honda Super Clásico's against Chivas USA, has won seven of the nine matches in the series, outscoring their opponent 17-5. The Galaxy took the inaugural season series in 2005 by winning all four games against their in-stadium rivals and then claimed two wins and a draw against Chivas last year to retain the title. This season the Galaxy won the first game of the series and know that a win on Sunday will assure them of at least a tie in this year's Honda Super Clásico.

The Galaxy have also dominated Chivas USA in all other competitions since Chivas USA began in 2005, winning all three of the two sides' Reserve Division matches and their 2005 U.S. Open Cup Fourth Round encounter.

NEW FACE IN THE GALAXY: On Monday the Galaxy agreed to terms with Portuguese international defender Abel Xavier. The 34-year old defender, who can play both as a right back and a central defender, spent the last two seasons in the English Premier League with Middlesbrough, and has played in Germany, Holland, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Turkey during his 17-year professional career. Xavier is eligible to make his first team debut once the Secondary MLS Transfer Window opens on June 15.

RESERVES OPEN SEASON WITH WIN: The Galaxy Reserves opened their 2007 schedule with a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution on Sunday morning. Santino Quaranta scored twice, once on either side of halftime, to give LA the win. The 22-year old midfielder converted a penalty kick in the first half and then hit a right-footed volley past New England goalkeeper Brad Knighton early in the second half to give his side a 1-0-0 record in the Reserve Division standings.

The Galaxy Reserves will be in action each of the next three weeks, taking on Chivas USA on Monday, May 21 at The Home Depot Center, traveling to Colorado to play the Rapids on Sunday, May 27 and then hosting D.C. United on Sunday, June 3 with all three games being played at 10 a.m. local time.

MARTINO UP FOR AWARD: Galaxy midfielder Kyle Martino has had his goal against the New England Revolution on Saturday night nominated for the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week. With the game still scoreless, Martino latched on to a perfect Peter Vagenas through ball and hit a first time shot that beat Matt Reis at the far post, giving the Galaxy a 1-0 lead.

Martino is the second Galaxy player to be nominated for Goal of the Week this season with Cobi Jones seeing his tally against Chivas USA finishing second in Week 4.

RANGERS TICKETS ON SALE NOW: Tickets for the Galaxy's friendly against Rangers FC on Wednesday, May 23 are now on sale. Kris Boyd, Barry Ferguson and the rest of the Scottish giants come to The Home Depot Center for the first time-ever and tickets start at just $10. They are available by calling 877-3GALAXY or by visiting www.lagalaxy.com .

Despite falling 1-0 at home to Kilmarnock on Sunday, Rangers is assured of finishing in second place in the Scottish Premier League this season and claiming a spot in the Champions League that comes along with doing so.

KIRK STAYS IN LA: Galaxy midfielder Quavas Kirk did not join the U.S. Under-20 National Team for its game against Argentina in Rochester, N.Y. on Tuesday. Kirk has been injured for much of the season with plantar fasciitis limiting him to just two appearances, one in the regular season and one in the U.S. Open Cup, this season.

While Kirk remained behind, his teammate Nathan Sturgis did travel to Rochester for the game against the defending U-20 World Champions. This game will be played at PAETEC Park in Rochester at 4 p.m. (PT) and can be followed live through MatchACCESS streaming video on www.ussoccer.com .
