FOXBORO, MA (Saturday, May 10, 2003) - Second half goals by Brian Kamler and Taylor Twellman gave the New England Revolution (2-2-1, 7pts) their first home win of the season in a 2-0 victory over the defending MLS Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy (0-2-3, 3pts) at Gillette Stadium. The match, which ended the Revolution's two-game losing streak at home, was the first between the two clubs since MLS Cup 2002 last October 20, when a golden goal by Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz gave Los Angeles its first MLS Cup championship.

The Galaxy remain winless on the season and saw their scoreless streak extend to 260 minutes, including two consecutive shutouts. The last goal by Los Angeles was scored by Cobi Jones in the 20th minute of an April 19 match against the MetroStars (1-1 tie).

In the first half both teams had a difficult time getting behind the opposing back lines as the attacks were not quick enough to catch defenders by surprise. The Revolution, who were more insistent in pushing forward in the first half, saw their best scoring opportunity come in the 35th minute. A cross by Steve Ralston from the right side of the Galaxy penalty area slipped by two defenders and found Twellman wide open at the top of the six-yard box. However, a poor first touch allowed Galaxy goalkeeper Kevin Hartman to sprint off his line to smother the ball.

Both teams came out of the break with urgency and picked up the pace of the match. The Galaxy had the first scoring opportunity in the 53rd minute when forward Alejandro Moreno fired a powerful point-blank shot on goal which was cleared off the line by Revolution midfielder Leo Cullen. The goal line save was critical as the Revolution found the back of the net just six minutes later. A shot by Jay Heaps was deflected by a Galaxy defender to an unmarked Kamler, who from the left side of the Galaxy penalty area sent an accurate, first-time shot inside the far right post. It was Kamler's first goal of the season and the first time the Revolution had taken the lead at home in their third match at Gillette Stadium.

The Revolution were energized by the goal and sent waves of attacks at the Galaxy goal, most coming down the right flank. Twellman was at the end of many of those offensives but the 2002 Budweiser Scoring Champion was foiled by Hartman on shots in the 63rd minute and again in the 66th minute. However, just moments after Hartman saved his 66th minute effort, Twellman received a pass in the box from Daniel Hernandez and slotted the ball under the 'keeper for his League-leading third goal of the campaign.

The Revolution would continue to take advantage of spaces in the Galaxy back line as the visitors pushed forward and the game opened up considerably compared to the first half of play. New England goalkeeper Adin Brown was forced to make saves in the 68th and 70th minutes as he picked up his first shutout of the season and the 11th of his career.

After two consecutive home games, the Revolution will next travel to Kansas City on Wednesday, May 14 for a midweek clash against the Wizards (8:00PM ET). The defending Eastern Conference champions then return home on Saturday, May 17 to host the Chicago Fire (6:00PM ET). The Galaxy continue on their eight-game road swing next Saturday with their sixth away game to start the season. The defending MLS Cup champions make their second trip of the season to Southlake, Texas on Saturday, May 17 for a match against the Dallas Burn (8:30PM ET).
