Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI - Wednesday afternoon the USHL announced the USHL All-Academic Team highlighting players in the league that excelled both on the ice and in the classroom during the previous season. Lumberjacks forward Jack Galanek (Hopkinton, MA) was one of only 5 players in the league to earn the award.
A first-year player in the USHL Galanek came to Muskegon after an impressive career at Shattuck St. Mary's a prep school in Minnesota. It was obvious since his arrival in Muskegon that Galanek takes his work off the ice just as seriously as his work on the ice. Parker Burgess, the Head Coach of the Lumberjacks said "Jack (Galanek) is such an intelligent young man. He balances hockey and school seamlessly."
The balance between school and hockey can be a tricky one, but for Galanek it provided success at both ends. Coach Burgess added "What is most impressive was his ability to transition of U16 to Junior hockey. It is a difficult jump and credit Jack's work ethic and emotional maturity to be able to step right in and be a contributor."
While he is slated to return to Muskegon next season Galanek is committed to continue his education and play NCAA Division I Ice Hockey at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Amherst following his Junior hockey playing career.
"We are proud of him being recognized for this hockey and academic achievement, and look forward to him being a key member of our '24-'25 group next season." Ended Coach Burgess.
