WORCESTER, MA - Massachusetts Pirates kicker Josh Gable has been named the Indoor Football League Special Teams Player of the Week. In the March 12 (Week One) home opener for the defending IFL Champions, Gable made a game winning 33-yard field goal as time expired giving Massachusetts a 30-27 victory over the Frisco Fighters on Phoenix Field at the DCU Center.
The win made a winner of Head Coach Rayshaun Kizer in his coaching debut and it extended the Pirates winning streak to 12 games dating back to last season.
With the game tied at 27 all and 1:40 remaining, Massachusetts started its final drive on the Frisco 24 yardline. Five plays later on third and goal from the 18, Gable came on to win the game with his third field goal of the night. He also made attempts from 35 and 24 yards.
The 5'10", 175 lb. kicker from Kearney, NE finished the game three of seven on field goal attempts and was a perfect three for three on extra points as he accounted for 12 of the Pirates 30 points.
Twice last season Gable earned IFL Special Teams Player of the Week honors as he made walk-off field goals in back-to-back games against Frisco and Tucson. The former European soccer standout who played in Italy and Belgium, kicked a 27-yard boot to defeat the Fighters in Texas and a 46-yard game winner on the road vs. the Sugar Skulls.
Gable, who helped the Iowa Barnstormers to a United Bowl title in 2018, appeared in six regular season games for Massachusetts last season and had a total of 49 kicking points. His 8.1 points per game ranked first in the IFL.
