IFL Announces Week One Players of the Week

March 17, 2022 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Indoor Football League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for the first week of the 2022 season. Bismarck Bucks quarterback Tahj Tolbert took Offensive Player of the Week, Sioux Falls Storm Linebacker Marquis Hendrix earned Defensive Player of the Week and Massachusetts Kicker Josh Gable was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

Tahj Tolbert - OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Bismarck Bucks quarterback Tahj Tolbert led the way to the Bucks to their first win of the season over the Green Bay Blizzard, 26-23, on Saturday in Green Bay. Tolbert threw 16-27 passes for 104 yards and three touchdowns. Tolbert led the Bucks to a 16-10 first half lead. He also started the second half with a 28 yard score to receiver, Rob Brown, extending their lead to 23-10. Then later in the fourth quarter, Reed Jr. snuck into the endzone with 30 seconds left to put the Wranglers up and seal the victory.

Marquis Hendrix - DEFENSIVE PLAYER THE WEEK

Sioux Falls Linebacker Marquis Hendrix fronted a strong defensive performance by the Storm to defeat the Quad City Steamwheelers, 35-24, on Sunday in Sioux Falls. Hendrix was all over the field. He delivered jarring hits and defended dasher board to dasher board. He finished the night with eleven total tackles, one sack and one tackle for loss.

Josh Gable - SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The defending United Bowl champions, Massachusetts Pirates, started off their season the same way they ended 2021...winning. In large part due to the talented leg of Josh Gable. Gable was successful on three field goals and three PAT attempts. The biggest of these came in the fourth quarter. The Frisco Fighters had tied the score at 27 with 2:05 left to play. The Pirates made their way to the Frisco 18 yard line. Gable then ensured a Massachusetts win by kicking the game winning Field Goal as time expired.

The Western Conference kicks off this weekend with inaugural games from the Vegas Knight Hawks and Bay Area Panthers.
