Mississippi Braves News Release
Greenville, SC-Blue Ridge Council of the Boy Scouts has awarded the Greenville Braves the Eagle Club Award, recognizing individuals or corporations who contribute $5,000 or more to scouting.
"The commitment the G-Braves make to our organization is key to us keeping our costs in line as well as getting our message out every year," said Larry Brown, Director of Field Service. "We appreciate all they continue to do for our organization." There are 30 Eagle Club members in the Blue Ridge Council of the Boy Scouts, comprised of individuals and corporations who contribute at the highest commitment level ($5,000 or more) to scouting, out of approximately 5,000 contributors. The council serves 22,000 youth and adult leaders in eight Upstate counties.
"We're humbled by this award," said Greenville Braves General Manager Steve DeSalvo. "We've been involved with the scouts for years, and it's amazing to watch the impact the Blue Ridge Council's leadership, events and activities have on the youth in our community. The Most important thing we can do in life, I believe, is to make a difference in the life of a child."
The Greenville Braves have been an active member of the local community for almost 20 years, hosting special nights at the ballpark each season to benefit local charities and sponsoring several charity functions year-round. The G-Braves also offer many other successful children's programs including the Huntington Learning Center Honor Roll Program, Pride in Carolina's Youth Reading Program, the Gatti-Town Braves Buddies Club and more.
A member of the Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs, the Greenville Braves are the Double A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, and has sent more than 120 players to the major leagues. The Greenville Braves, the only franchise in minor league baseball to draw more than 200,000 fans per season for 19 consecutive years, is celebrating its 20th season in Greenville.
