G-Braves Drop Second Straight Game

The Gwinnett Braves dropped their second straight game to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, losing 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. Gwinnett (25-31) starter Jo-Jo Reyes lost his third straight start, as the Yankees (33-24) took an early lead via the longball and didn't relinquish it. The G-Braves are eight games out in second place behind International League South leaders Durham, while the Yankees are tied for first place in the IL North with both Syracuse and Buffalo (standings current as of press time).

It Was Over When: Former Gwinnett Brave Reid Gorecki went yard in his old ballpark. Gorecki (RF) followed 3B Matt Cusick's leadoff single in the 3rd inning with his first homer of the year. The Yanks never trailed again.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: LHP Reyes (0-3) lost his third straight start, and has now failed to go more than 4.0 IP in any of his four starts for Gwinnett this year (his first was a 2.0 IP rehab start for Atlanta). He gave up 4 R/ER without walking anyone and posting 3 K's in his four innings of work. RHP Vladimir Nunez went 2.0 IP without allowing a run and has had three straight scoreless outings (4.0 IP).

At the plate: 1B Barbaro Canizares hit the 100th and 101st doubles of his career, finishing 2-for-4. with an RBI. DH Freddie Freeman knocked in an RBI (1-for-4) in his second straight game since returning from his right knee injury, and SS Brandon Hicks was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: RHP Jason Hirsh (4-6), a late change to start today's game, went 5.0 IP and allowed just 1 R/ER. He walked only 1 batter and struck out 5 in the win.

At the plate: Gorecki finished 2-for-4 with a HR and 2 RBI, while 2B Reegie Corona went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI.

On Deck: Gwinnett wraps up their series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees and their eight-game homestand tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. in the final game of a four-game series at Coolray Field. RHP Todd Redmond (5-5, 4.41 ERA) will start for the Braves, while the Yankees will send RHP Dustin Moseley (2-3, 4.21 ERA). The game will be broadcast on WDUN-550 AM.
