G-Braves drop homestand opener to Louisville, 7-4

The Lead: The Louisville Bats defeated the Gwinnett Braves 7-4 on Friday night at Coolray Field. This was first time this season that the G-Braves began a homestand with a loss, having 6 straight wins before tonight.

It Was Over When: In the top of the 1st and 3rd inning, Gwinnett starter Jose Ortegano gave up 3-run home runs to Wladimir Balentien, putting them ahead 6-1. The runs off Balentien's bat were all Louisville would need to secure the win.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Ortegano allowed 6 R/ER on 9 hits. He struck out 7 batters in his 4 innings of work.

At the plate: Brent Clevlen had his first MLB rehab start tonight for Gwinnett, going 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Pinch hitting, Barbaro Canizares had the other RBI for the G-Braves.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: Starter Daniel Herrera allowed only 1 R/ER on 3 hits in 4.0 IP.

At the plate: All of the runs for the Bats came off the long ball. This was the second time this season Balentien hit 2 home runs in a game against Gwinnett (5/30 @ LOU). He finished the night 2-for-5 with 6 RBI.

On Deck: Gwinnett hosts Louisville in game two of a four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Coolray Field. G-Braves LHP Mike Minor (3-0, 1.93 ERA) is scheduled to face LHP Matt Maloney (7-5, 3.26 ERA) of the Bats.
