Gwinnett Stripers News Release

The Gwinnett Braves knocked the Indianapolis Indians around once again, 12-3 at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA, on Monday night. Mike Minor showed why he's one of the Braves biggest assets in the minors, pitching and hitting his team to a big win in which they again had double-digit runs (23 in the last two games). The G-Braves (61-48) pull back in to first place in the International League South in a tie with Durham, which was off tonight. Gwinnett is also atop the Wild Card race by a half-game with the victory. The Indians (57-54) remain in third place in the IL West with the loss.

It Was Over When: G-Braves 3B Brandon Hicks saw the Indians out on the field again tonight. The second-season Gwinnett infielder - who yesterday against Indy matched a career high with 4 hits originally set against the Indians in 2010 - knocked in a RBI with the game tied at 1-1 in the 3rd inning for a lead the Braves would keep the rest of the way. The offense exploded after that.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Starting LHP Minor (4-5) went 6.0 IP, allowing 2 R/ER on 5 H with 3 BB and 8 K's. It was his lowest run total yielded since 7/16 and his most K's since 6/5, before being recalled into the Atlanta rotation for the second time this season.

At the Plate: It was a big night again for the offense, as CF Matt Young matched a career high with 4 RBI (2-for-4), LF Wilkin Ramirez set a career high with 5 hits in 5 ABs and also matched a career high 3 SB (he also had 3 RBI). Stefan Gartrell, once again in RF, went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI that increased his IL leading total to 76 on the year. Minor notched the first RBI of his career at any level, poking an RBI single through the right side of the infield in the 4th inning. Hicks (2-for-4) and SS Tyler Pastornicky (2-for-5) also chipped in a RBI apiece.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: Indianapolis starting LHP Justin Wilson (9-7) went just 3.2 IP, yielding 3 R/ER on 6 H with 3 BB and 2 K's in defeat. He was one of three Indy hurlers to give up 3 R or more on the night.

At the Plate: Indians LF John Bowker and C Ryan Doumit both went 1-for-4, and SS Jordy Mercer was 1-for-3, all with an RBI apiece for the team's only offense.

On Deck: The G-Braves take on the Indians in the last game of this four game mini homestand, Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Gwinnett will send out RHP Todd Redmond (7-8, 3.02) against Indianapolis LHP Garrett Olson (4-0, 2.48).
