TODAY'S GAME:
Tonight, the Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the first game of a two-game series from Frontier Field (7:05 p.m.). The Herd has won three straight games, including a two-game sweep in Lehigh Valley over the weekend, to begin its season-long 10-game roadtrip. After Wednesday's off day, the Bisons will travel to Pawtucket and then Syracuse.
VS. THE WINGS:
The Bisons are 7-5 against the Red Wings this season. The teams have split three series so far this season while the Herd collected a two-game sweep at Coca-Cola Field, July 14-15. Buffalo is 9-5 in their last 14 games at Frontier Field.
SCHWING AND MISS:
RHP CHRIS SCHWINDEN makes his team-high 20th start tonight. The righty leads the Bisons with a 3.46ERA and is tied with LHP Pat Misch with six wins. Schwinden has struck out six or more in six straight starts and ranks seventh in the International League with 101 punchouts on the season. The righty did not earn a decision his last time out despite seven innings of two-run ball against the Yankees on July 27.
Mr. VP:
INF VALENTINO PASCUCCI has driven in a run in four straight games and is tied with Gwinnett's Stefan Gartrell for the most RBI in the International League with 74. The slugger has 24RBI in only 18 games since the All-Star Break. Pascucci is now on pace for 102RBI for the season, which would be one short of Alex Ramirez's team record of 103 during the 1998 season.
HIT STREAKIN:
INF VALENTINO PASCUCCI has hit in 12 straight games with a .378 (17-45) average and 13RBI since July 20. INF JOSH SATIN brings an eight-game streak into tonight's action and has hit .375 (12-32) since July 24. INF LUIS FIGUEROA now ranks seventh in the IL in average (.312) thanks to a seven-game hit streak since July 25 over which he has averaged .387 (12-31).
BISONS BITS:
With his two-run double last night, LHP PAT MISCH became the first Bisons pitcher to drive in four runs in a season since RHP Rick Reed in 1991 (record is RHP Vicente Palacios, 6RBI, 1990)...The Bisons have won four straight games on two other occasions this season, including June 24-27...With 298 games played in his Bisons career, OF JESUS FELICIANO can become just the 10th player to reach 300 games in the team's modern era.
METS UPDATE:
The Mets (55-53) lost to the Nationals, 3-2, yesterday afternoon. OF SCOTT HAIRSTON hit two home runs in the loss despite not starting the game for New York. Former Bisons LHP JON NIESE allowed just two runs in 5.1 innings but did not earn a decision. New York returns home to host the Marlins tonight at 7:10 p.m.
