Mississippi Braves News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C. - West Tenn right fielder Jason Dubois went 4-4, driving in the only two runs of the game with a sixth inning double, as the Jaxx shutout the G-Braves 2-0 at Greenville Municipal Stadium. The G-Braves were shut out for the second time in as many games. Right hander Jason Szuminski picked up the win, and reliever Jon Leicester picked up the save, setting down the only batter he faced.

The G-Braves, for the second night in a row, got a great effort from their starting pitcher. Matt Belisle threw seven strong innings, allowing only two runs, one earned, on five hits. The right hander also struck out four in the losing effort. He pitched better than his counterpart, Travis Anderson, who tossed only four and two-thirds innings for the no decision. Anderson was pulled after allowing six hits and walking two.

James Jurries tried to jump start the offense, going 2-4 with a walk and stolen base for the G-Braves. Jurries was in scoring position twice, but failed to score a run. He had a rally-starting two out base hit in the fifth, when the G-Braves loaded the bases. Ryan Langerhans struck out swinging to end the threat.

A throwing error by Greenville shortstop Pete Orr put Jaxx leadoff man Ray Sadler on base to start the sixth. After a fly-out, Jon Powers popped a base hit to right that put runners on the corners. Dubois then doubled in the only two runs of the game. The Jaxx used six pitchers, including two in the ninth, for the win.

Game Notes

The G-Braves go on the road tomorrow to start a four game series at division leader Carolina. The Mudcats currently own the best record in the Southern League at 32-19. Probable starters are Greenville left hander Chris Waters (0-0) and Carolina left hander Ryan Snare (4-0).
