Mobile BayBears News Release

Mobile, Ala. – The Mobile BayBears held a 5-2 lead over Chattanooga entering the top of the eighth inning, only to see themselves trailing 6-5 when they came to bat in the bottom of the frame. The BayBears did tie the score in the bottom of the eighth but fell to the Lookouts in the 11th inning, 7-6.

BayBears' reliever Bryan Gaal began the eighth inning on the mound, but was not around for the end. Gaal faced six hitters, five reached, four on hits, and four of them scored. Rusty Tucker relieved Gaal with two outs and gave up two hits himself.

Trailing 6-5, the BayBears fought back to tie the score in the bottom of the eighth. Khalil Greene led off with a single and, after being sacrificed to second, went to third on a single by Vince Faison. Luis Lorenzana drove Greene in with a sacrifice fly.

Neither team would score in the ninth or tenth innings. Chattanooga loaded the bases in the 11th against Mike Bumstead and Dane Sardinha drove in the game-winning run with a single up the middle.

The BayBears had a chance in the bottom of the inning. Faison led off the frame with a double and Lorenzana followed with a singl, putting runners at the corners with no outs. Lookouts' closer David Gil retired the final three hitters leaving those runners in place.

Jon Knott gave the BayBears a 2-0 lead in the first with his 12th homerun of the season, tying him for the Southern League lead. Lorenzana drove in Humberto Quintero with a solid single in the second, extending the lead to 3-0. Leading 3-2 Mobile added what at the time seemed like two insurance runs. Todd Donovan tripled to right-center driving in Lorenzana. Donovan crossed the plate on the play as well as the throw in to third base sailed into the Lookouts dugout.

The series finale will be Friday night at 7:05. RHP Chris Oxspring (0-2) will get the start on the mound for Mobile against Chattanooga's Ryan Mottl.
