Rays Continue Winning Ways

ORLANDO - The Orlando Rays (24-29) beat the Jacksonville Suns (25-28) 5-2 on Friday night at Cracker Jack Stadium. The Rays took three out of four games in the home stand and have won five of their last six games.

Jonny Gomes sparked the Rays offense with two homeruns and three RBIs. Gomes, Amado German and Matt Diaz all went 2-for-4 on the night with German hitting a triple and Diaz scoring one run and driving in another.

The Rays starting pitcher Jim Magrane earned his fifth win of the season bringing his record to 5-2. Magrane allowed two runs on three hits in five innings pitched on the evening. Evan Rust pitched a scoreless ninth for his ninth save of the year.

Suns pitcher Heath Totten (3-5) pitched six innings allowing five runs on eight hits.

Orlando and the Suns kick off a four-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts, tomorrow at 7:05 p.m., with RHP Dustin Moseley (4-2, 3.30) pitching for Chattanooga, while the Rays counter with RHP Doug Waechter (4-3, 3.84).

Saturday night's game is brought to you by Foresters. TM Hit a home-run for abused and neglected Central Florida children. Proceeds raised at this event -- sponsored by Foresters TM, a financial services organization with a 129-year tradition of community service - will benefit the Central Florida Division of Children's Home Society of Florida (CHS). Five dollars from every ticket sold through Foresters TM will help abused, neglected and abandoned children.
