May 2, 2019 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Ontario Fury News Release
Milwaukee, WI. - The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) has announced the first set of postseason awards for the 2018-2019 campaign, honoring a pair of Ontario Fury standouts. While former U.S. international Jermaine Jones was recognized as one of the All-MASL Top Newcomers, goalkeeper Chris Toth received an All-MASL Honorable Mention.
Jones made his Fury debut in mid-March, following a storied career that included key contributions in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and numerous appearances in the top flights of Germany, England and Turkey as well as in Major League Soccer. The 37-year-old midfielder took the North American indoor game by storm, bagging 10 goals and 4 assists in just 5 contests for an impressive 2.8 points-per-game average that was tied for third-best in the league. Jones was named to the MASL Team of the Week starting six in week 18 and to the substitutes list in week 19.
In order to be eligible for the Top Newcomers, a player must not have played in more than five games in the MASL, the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) or the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) prior to this season.
Netminder Toth, who had joined Ontario from rivals San Diego Soccers during the off-season, proved a giant between the sticks as he produced countless spectacular saves en route to a .468 goals-against average that was good for fifth-best in the league. The 29-year-old California native made the MASL Team of the Week starting six in weeks 1 and 16 as well as the substitutes list in weeks 2, 4, 6 and 18.
Voting for the postseason awards was based on regular season performance and for the first time was open to all MASL players, general managers and head coaches, in addition to select MASL staff.
