Fury Season Ends with 8-4 Loss

March 2, 2018 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Ontario Fury News Release

The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, had its slim window into the postseason slammed shut by the San Diego Sockers, as the Pacific Division champions beat the Fury 8-4 Thursday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

The Fury, which needed to win tonight and have Tacoma lose tomorrow, led 2-1 in the second quarter on goals from Chico Francisco Cordeiro and Leonardo de Oliveira. But the Sockers' Matt Clare scored with five seconds left in the half to pull San Diego even, and taking the wind out of the Fury's sails.

San Diego's leading scorer, Kraig Chiles, added to the Fury's misery, scoring just 19 seconds into the second half, as the Sockers scored the next three goals to take a 4-2 lead. Juan Carlos Gonzalez pulled the Fury back within one, heading in a chip pass from Israel Sesay, but that was all the Fury could muster against the stingy San Diego defense until Ontario scored a power play goal with an extra attacker on the field with 2:57 remaining, and the game pretty much decided.

The Sockers blocked 16 Fury shot attempts, and goalkeeper Boris Pardo stopped another 14 as the Fury worked forward to try and keep their season alive.

Gonzalez ended the game with a goal and two assists for the Fury. Brandon Escoto had a hat trick for San Diego, while Chiles and Clare had two goals apiece.
