Fury and K-Wings alumni cap series Saturday
February 8, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI.--- The two-time reigning Colonial Cup Champions of the United Hockey League and current UHL league-leading Muskegon Fury, in collaboration with their long-time archrivals, the Kalamazoo Wings, will stage their second major event which is designed expressly to benefit the Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund.
It will be the second and concluding game of the two game home-and-home series of Alumni Games featuring the Muskegon Alumni and the Kalamazoo Wings Alumni. Once again, this exhibition contest will act as a prelude to the main event game featuring the top two teams in the UHL's Central Division, the first-place Fury and the second place Wings.
Both the Fury and Kalamazoo will be enlisting their respective alumni squads from a vast array of top-flight personnel who have prominently played throughout the enormous history that has been achieved in both hockey-rich communities. The Fury Alumni Team will consist of players from the 46-years of pro hockey history in Muskegon, which includes the eras of the Zephyrs, Mohawks and Lumberjacks of the IHL and the contemporary Fury of today's UHL. As for Kalamazoo, the Wings team of yesteryear notables will include players that have been clad in the K-Wings crest since the franchise debut as an International Hockey League club in 1974 through today's incarnation in the UHL.
As in the opening game of this historical series, back on January 21st, this Alumni Game will also be part of a hockey doubleheader in which today's top two Central Division teams will serve as the second game of the twin bill. The Alumni Game for this Saturday is set for a 5:00 pm opening face-off followed by the UHL clash between the Wings and the Fury at 7:30 pm at Walker Arena.
As in Kalamazoo, the purchase of a ticket to the actual game between the Fury and Kalamazoo will also serve as the admission to the preliminary Alumni event.
In the initial meeting in this alumni series on January 21st in Kalamazoo, Muskegon prevailed 6-2 on the strength of a 5-goal unanswered opening period siege. Former Fury star right wing "Hot Shot" Scott Hollis triggered the 3-goal "hat trick" for the victors while Scott Feasby and Jeff Napierala each engineered 1-goal and 1-assist.
There will be a trio of debuting standouts joining the Muskegon Alumni lineup this Saturday night; including defenseman Todd Charlesworth along with left wing Doug Stromback and center Justin Morrison.
Ron Stephenson and Joe Kastelic will continue behind the bench as the Alumni team coaching staff with former Mohawks coach Gerry Moore and former Mohawks and Lumberjacks Governor John Snider also in attendance as special Alumni guests.
This two-game series of Alumni games are being played to benefit the Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund.
