Birmingham Barons News Release

MOBILE, AL - Birmingham Barons starter Carson Fulmer tossed seven shutout innings, while designated hitter Courtney Hawkins poured on five RBIs in a dominant 10-0 victory over the Mobile BayBears.

Fulmer, the Chicago White Sox no. 1 prospect, delivered the longest outing of career and allowed just two hits while giving up just two walks. He fanned seven BayBears batters on 62 strikes and 94 total pitches.

At the plate Hawkins, the White Sox no. 9 prospect, powered the Barons offense, launching a sixth inning grand slam as part of a 3-for-4 night that featured five RBIs and a double. Hawkins is now 9-for-18 with two HR and nine RBIs in four games vs Mobile this series.

Eddy Alvarez started the scoring for Birmingham, launching a three-run homer in the third inning to give the Barons a quick 2-0 lead. Trey Michalczewski followed a Hawkins sacrifice fly with his sixth long ball of the year to put the Barons out front 5-0 early.

Michalczewski closed out the scoring, following up Hawkins' grand slam in the sixth with an RBI single in the eighth inning to reach today's 10-0 final score. Keenyn Walker scored for the third time as Michalczewski, the White Sox no. 6 prospect, plated his third RBI of the game.

Every Baron in the starting lineup besides catcher Jeremy Dowdy recorded a hit. Dowdy, however, was behind the dish for all nine frames as Kyle Hansen closed the game with two scoreless innings.

James Dykstra will make a spot start for the Barons tomorrow. He has allowed just one earned run and seven hits in his past 11.1 innings pitched, including four scoreless frames in a spot start 6/10 at Biloxi.
