Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa - The 2021/22 USHL schedule began with a Waterloo Black Hawks netminder winning the United States Hockey League's Goaltender of the Week award and it ended in the same fashion.

On Monday, the USHL selected Emmett Croteau for his first weekly award, following a pair of victories in Waterloo's final two games. The Hawks' Jack Williams had been recognized with the same title on both September 28th and October 5th to open the season.

Croteau boosted his record to 16-16-3 over the weekend as the Hawks topped the Des Moines Buccaneers 6-3 and 4-0. He made 16 saves during Waterloo's final road game last Friday. Saturday in a home rematch, Croteau made multiple key stops against Ethan Fredericks during the first period, then turned in 15 more saves during a busy second. He finished the night denying a total of 23 chances, departing after the second period for a well-earned rest. Jakub Tichy completed the game, combining with Croteau on the shutout. It is the first time two Hawks have blanked an opponent together since March 1, 2019 when Evan Fear and Logan Stein did it in a 2-0 tilt versus the Fargo Force.

Croteau has played some of his best hockey late in 2021/22. His efforts during recent weeks pushed his goals-against average down to 3.00, tying him for sixth in the league. Croteau's save percentage (.899) ranked fifth. He also tied for 8th in the league with 16 wins. On January 22nd, the 18-year-old from Alberta earned a 31-save shutout against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.

Croteau is committed to Clarkson University.

Waterloo's three Goalie of the Week Awards were more than in any other USHL player category this season. In addition, Cooper Wylie was picked as Defenseman of the Week once in October, and John Waldron earned Forward of the Week recognition for his efforts at the tail-end of February.
