
Clark Shuts out Cedar Rapids, Lumberjacks Steamroll RoughRiders in 6-0 Drubbing

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Muskegon Lumberjacks goaltender Chase Clark stopped all 31 pucks he faced as his team trounced the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders by a final score of 6-to-0 in Game 1 of the First Round of the 2022 Clark Cup Playoffs on Monday, April 25, 2022, at Mercy Health Arena. Owen Mehlenbacher lit the lamp twice, with rearguard Noah Ellis pocketing three points in the thrashing. Elsewhere, Joey Larson, Quinn Hutson, and Jake Braccini each scooped up a pair of points, with Muskegon's power play operating at 75 percent and a perfect penalty kill to follow. With the win, the Jacks control the best-of-three series by leading the series 1-0, and have a chance to sweep Cedar Rapids with Game 2 on Tuesday, April 27 at 7:00 pm from Mercy Health Arena.
1st Period
It would be the Lumberjacks who would score the first goal of the 2022 Clark Cup Playoffs for Muskegon with his first playoff goal at 14:52 while on the power play. Mehlenbacher's goal was assisted by Jake Braccini and Noah Ellis to give the Jacks the 1-to-0 lead.
At the end of 20 minutes, Muskegon controlled a 1-to-0 lead heading into the dressing room for the first intermission.
2nd Period
It was all Muskegon in the second period as Phil Tresca doubled the Lumberjack lead to 2-to-0 at 6:27 of the second period. Tresca's first playoff goal was assisted by Jake Braccini and Nathan McBrayer.
Quinn Hutson extended the Muskegon lead to 3-to-0 at 13:26 of the second period. Joey Larson picked up the lone assist on Hutson's first playoff goal of the year.
While on the power play, Jack Williams made it a 4-to-0 game for the Jacks at 17:33 of the middle period. Williams's first playoff goal of the season was assisted by Jacob Guevin and Quinn Hutson.
After two periods of action, a three-goal third period set up the Lumberjacks to a 4-to-0 lead at the end of 40 minutes.
3rd Period
The Jacks kept their foot on the gas pedal in the third with Noah Ellis striking for gold at 9:40 to increase the Lumberjack lead to 5-to-0. Ellis's first playoff goal of the season was assisted by Ben Strinden.
Owen Mehlenbacher notched his second goal of the game at 14:32 for Muskegon will on the power play to open it to a 6-to-0 lead. Mehlenbacher's second playoff goal was assisted by Joey Larson and Noah Ellis.
Lumberjacks netminder Chase Clark held the Muskegon for for 31 saves, picking up his first shutout of the postseason, securing Muskegon's win in game one of the First Round.
On Deck
The Muskegon Lumberjacks will have a chance to sweep Cedar Rapids out of the postseason with Game 2 of the First Round of the 2022 Clark Cup Playoffs against the RoughRiders on Tuesday, April 26. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 pm EDT from Mercy Health Arena. If Cedar Rapids is victorious on Tuesday, both teams will head to a Game 3, which is scheduled for Wednesday, April 27 with a 7:00 pm EDT faceoff at Mercy Health Arena. Camp Dates Announced
The Muskegon Lumberjacks have announced their 2022 Camp Dates for the upcoming season. Registration is now open for the Prospect 07-08 Camp, which runs from May 27-29, 2022 at Mercy Health Arena in downtown Muskegon. Goalie camp is scheduled for June 4-5, 2022, at the Lakeshore Sports Centre. Main Camp, which includes free agents and prospects, will run June 9-11, with Final Main Camp on June 12-15, both at Mercy Health Arena. For more information, visit muskegonlumberjacks.com/camps2022.
