Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Wheeling, WV - The Kalamazoo Wings concluded their three-game road trip with a 3-1 victory Saturday night against Wheeling Nailers.
After a scoreless first period, the K-Wings didn't waste any time in the middle frame to get on the scoreboard. Skating in the slot, Chris Lawrence (6th) extended his point streak to five games with a marker three minutes into the period.
Wheeling responded with 11 seconds remaining in the period with a power-play goal from Max MacKay (11th) to even the game at 1-1.
Reclaiming the lead 3:07 into the third period, Kalamazoo's Sam Ftorek (9th) sent in a one-timer from a pass from Matt Caria. The assist from Caria extended his point streak to five games.
Adding insurance late, Nick Sirota (3rd) tacked on an empty-netter with 50 seconds remaining to secure the victory.
Jordan Binnington made 29 saves to earn the win, which helped the K-Wings snap a season-long five-game road winless streak (0-4-0-1).
Outshot 11-2 in the first period, Kalamazoo responded as they outshot Wheeling 29-19 in the final two periods.
The K-Wings will return to Wings Stadium on Wednesday, February 5th with a 7p.m. face-off versus the Elmira Jackals during a 5:01 Wednesday. February 5th will also be a Winning Wednesday presented by WNWN.
