Frost Heaves Fan Fests This Weekend

November 1, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Vermont Frost Heaves News Release

South Burlington, Vt.-A slam-dunk contest, a three-point contest and a blue-white scrimmage are among the festivities on tap this weekend as the 2007-08 edition of the Vermont Frost Heaves meet and greet supporters with events in Barre and Burlington.

Northfield Savings Bank, a proud partner of the 2007 ABA Champions, is presenting sponsor of both Fan Fests, which are set for Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Barre Municipal Auditorium, and Sunday, Nov. 4, at Burlington's Memorial Auditorium. Doors will open at noon, with activities tipping off at 1 p.m. Admission is free to kids 14 and under, while adults will be $5 at the door.

Vermont p.a. announcer Carl Parton and in-game emcee Dave Sears will preside over each day's programs, which will also include the painting of a special Frost Heaves mural by Northeast Kingdom artist Colleen Flanagan, and a ceremony to honor founding Frost Heave Kerry Lyons, who will serve the team this season as an assistant coach. Fans will also have a chance to get autographs, with Flanagan's portraits of returning Frost Heaves and ABA Championship commemorative posters distributed free while supplies last. In addition, two surprise Northfield Savings Bank Community All-Stars will suit up and participate in the scrimmage at each Fan Fest.

With an ABA title and returning players Markus Austin, John Bryant, Antonio Burks and B.J. Robertson in tow, the Frost Heaves embark on their second season with the addition of 10 new faces, including former UVM all-time great Erik Nelson; ex-Rice Memorial High School and St. Michael's star Chris Cayole; and David Hannah, the all-time leading scorer at Randolph Union High School.

Members of the media are welcome to interview players, coaches and staff at both events.

Throughout training camp and the regular season, the press is invited to drop by the team's official training facility, the Sports & Fitness Edge in Essex, for 30 minutes of pre-practice interview and photo opportunities. Practice generally begins at 3:30 p.m. on non-game days when the team isn't on the road, but please confirm with director of operations Mike Healey that there has been no change in the schedule. He's reachable at mike@vermontfrostheaves.com or 802-578-7056.

Vermont opens its season on Nov. 9 at Montreal. Once again, the Frost Heaves will split their 18 home games evenly between Barre and Burlington, with their Barre opener scheduled for Thursday night, Nov. 15, and Burlington debut set for Sunday afternoon, Nov. 18.

Season tickets may be purchased online at www.vermontfrostheaves.com or by calling 802-860-0082, while single-game tickets go on sale next week through the Flynn Regional Box Office. Go to flynntix.org; call 802-86-FLYNN; or stop by the main box office at 153 Main Street in Burlington. Tickets for single games in Barre are also available at all First In Fitness and Allen Lumber locations.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
