November 1, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Saint John Riptide News Release
Former UMass-Lowell star and two time Northeast-10 Conference Player of Year, Stacey Moragne, has signed on to play for the Manchester Millrats of the ABA.
UMass-Lowell is a conference rival of Southern New Hampshire University, the site of the Millrats home court this season. Moragne completed a storied career at UMass-Lowell, graduating in 2006 as the 3rd all time leading scorer, 3rd all time leading rebounder, and 2nd all time leader in field goals made in school history. He was named 2nd team All American and also the Northeast Region Co-Player of the Year.
A 6'4 lefty power forward from Evanston, IL, Moragne compiled averages of 21.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game his senior season, in addition to shooting 55% from the field and 46% from three point range.
"Stacey has been one of the premier players in the league since his sophomore year," said UMass-Lowell Head Coach Ken Barer. "He is a very special player who is incredibly efficient. Obviously, he is very deserving of those honors. I'm very happy for him because I know how hard he has worked and I know the amount of time he has put in."
Last season, Moragne honed his professional skills overseas while averaging 20.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game for Maccabi Hod Hasharon in the Israeli National League.
The Millrats are a new entry in the American Basketball Association (ABA), and will play their home games in the 'Fieldhouse' on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH. The season and home opener is set for Sunday November 11, 2007 at 4:35 p.m. versus the Boston Blizzard. Single game, season and half season ticket plans are on sale now on www.manchestermillrats.com or by calling 1-866-9-GET TIX (1-866-943-8849).
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
