Vermont Frost Heaves News Release
Barre, VT - The Vermont Frost Heaves clinched a wild-card playoff spot today by defeating the Buffalo Stampede 120-94. It was the culmination of a long 3 game weekend that saw the Frost Heaves win 3 straight games at home.
Both teams started off sluggish, but once Vermont started to get their legs back they were off to the races. The first quarter closed with Vermont holding a 29-21 lead and Buffalo could never really get any closer the rest of the game.
The second quarter ended with Vermont holding a commanding 59-45 lead. Benson Callier once again lead the first half assault with 12 points and John Bryant had 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. The third quarter was more of the same as Buffalo was just not able to keep up with the Frost Heaves up-tempo attack.
Vermont was lead by Benson Callier with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Game MVP Brian Graves contributed 19 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds. Once again Vermont had 6 players in double figures and out-rebounded Buffalo 58 - 36.
Vermont's next game is Thursday night in Barre against the Millrats. The game is the first Champlain Cup meeting between the two teams and it should be just as good as the rest of the games between the two division rivals. Game time is 7:05 p.m. in Barre.
Vermont's playoff opponent has not been decided yet and probably will not be known until the last weekend of the season.
