Kingston Frontenacs News Release

Kingston - The Kingston Frontenacs organization is pleased to announce the signing of forward Matthew Soto to a Standard Player Agreement.

Soto, a 5'11", 161 lbs. right winger from Oakville, ON was selected by Kingston in the 1st round, 5th overall at the 2021 OHL Priority Selection on June 4.

Matthew is a graduate of the Oakville Rangers Minor Hockey Program. During the 2019-20 season he recorded 21 goals and 23 assists for 44 points in just 34 games. He is one of five Rangers selected in the opening round of the 2021 Priority Selection.

When asked about the signing, Head Coach and General Manager Paul McFarland said "We are pleased to officially welcome Matthew to our organization. Matthew's biggest strength as a player is his hockey IQ, and because of that he has the ability to play in all situations. Matthew's skill level and ability to find space to score will make him a great asset to our forward group. He is a very driven individual for such a young player, and we couldn't be more excited to have him as a part of our program."

Following his selection, Soto was asked how he was feeling after being drafted. He responded "Just speechless. There is really no better feeling. As a young kid, you try to work toward this, and it is something you want to do as you grow older. For this day to finally come, and to go that high, it's really an honor and it's a good feeling.

When asked to describe himself as a player, Matthew said "I think I'm a player that plays at a high motor, really creative, really skilled, and a pretty good skater. I think I'm a well-rounded player that can play a complete game."

Matthew will join that Frontenacs in training camp later this summer in preparation for the 2021-22 season.
