Frontenacs Come Back Late to Down 67's

OTTAWA - A last-minute goal from Jason Robertson propelled the Kingston Frontenacs over the Ottawa 67's Thursday evening at The Arena at TD Place. The goal came at 19:18 of the third period, giving Kingston the 2-1 victory over Ottawa in their first meeting of the season.
"Obviously a disappointing effort on home ice," said 67's assistant coach Mike Eastwood after the game. "We just didn't show up to play tonight, it's as simple as that."
Eastwood praised the play of starting goaltender Leo Lazarev, who made 33 saves in the losing effort. He said he was happy to see the good performance, and the loss doesn't fall on the Ottawa starter.
Ottawa and Kingston played to a scoreless draw after the first period, with the Frontenacs having two power play opportunities, but Lazarev stood tall and thwarted their chances.
Lazarev continued his hot play in the second period, robbing Kingston's Nathan Dunkley on a knuckler that lobbed high over the goaltender's head. He reached up and flashed the leather, keeping the game tied.
Ottawa would break that tie in the early stages of the third. After Dunkley took a checking from behind penalty in the attacking zone, Ben Evans deflected Noel Hoefenmayer's wrister from the line behind Jeremy Helvig.
The tip-in came five seconds into the man advantage and put Ottawa up by one.
However, the special teams would come in handy for Kingston as well. Linus Nyman gave them their first goal just two minutes after Ottawa's, knotting the game at one.
It came down to the final minute when Robertson effectively ended the game with a shot through the five-hole of Leo Lazarev.
It's a quick turnaround at home for Ottawa, with the 67's hosting the Saginaw Spirit on Saturday afternoon at TD Place. It will be the second meeting between the two teams, after Saginaw defeated Ottawa 7-4 on Sep. 30.
