Oshawa, On- The Oshawa General is proud to announce that they be hosting two special theme night's in support of United Way Durham and the Children's Wish Foundation.

On Sunday October 23rd the General will host the "Pucks 4 United Way" game vs the Guelph Storm. This night will be in support of United Way Durham Region and will feature special Jersey's in support of the cause.

United Way Durham Region's goal is to help those less fortunate in the community. They rely on more than 1,000 volunteers and many tens of thousands of donors to help raise funds for the agencies in the community that provide a critical service. This way the agencies can use their resources towards more programming than on fundraising.

"Fighting poverty and its effects, helping kids be all they can be, helping families in crisis, helping seniors live in dignity, each (and more) are critical components of a stronger community in the 21st century. None of it can be sustainably addressed in isolation or by oneself. It takes a community. We are proud of our partnership with the Oshawa Generals, their players, their ownership, staff and their fans. They are valuable additions to our community building team. Together we can create possibility for many tens of thousands in Durham." Said Cindy Murray, CEO of United Way Durham

On February 12th, the Generals will then host a Super Hero night vs the North Bay Battalion in support of the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada. The game will feature themed giveaways and everyone's favorite super heroes.

The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada is the largest all Canadian wish granting charity dedicated to granting wishes to Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 17 who are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. For more than 30 years, Children's Wish has worked tirelessly to grant heartfelt wishes to nearly 25,000 children and their families.

Last year they granted nearly 1200 wishes, their largest wish granting year in their 32 year history. With the help of our generous donors and volunteers, they will continue to meet the increasing need of Canadian children to realize their single-most heartfelt wish. Children's Wish grants approximately three wishes each and every day, all year long. Currently, the Ontario Chapter is working on granting 600 wishes. Each wish is carefully structured to meet the particular needs of the child and their family.

"The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, Ontario Chapter is thrilled to be partnering with the Oshawa Generals Hockey Club for the 2016/2017 season. Teaming up with an organization that has a strong history of supporting their local community is an exciting way for us to engage Gens fans in granting wishes for deserving children. As the Generals celebrate their 80th anniversary, we're proud to say that we've granted over 80 wishes within the Oshawa area, but still have 17 pending wishes that we'd like to make a reality. We look forward to a great night of hockey with some fun activities that will help to create unique and memorable experiences for Generals fans and ultimately, our wish children." Said Tyler Mercer Manager, Resource Development Children's Wish Foundation

The Oshawa Generals are excited to partner with both organizations and look forward to these special nights this season "This is a great opportunity for the Oshawa Generals to create awareness and support for two amazing organizations and we are very excited for these upcoming games." Said Roger Hunt Vice President and General Manager of the Oshawa Generals
