Frogs' Blasts Aid 1st Home Win of August
EVERETT, Wash. -- The Everett AquaSox (7-5, 23-27) powered their way to their third win in August with three home runs, including two by second baseman Jorge Agudelo, defeating the Vancouver Canadians (5-7, 29-21) by a score of 7-2 to remain atop the West Division.
Sox starter Jose Campos (4-3, 2.82 ERA) put together another impressive home start going six innings allowing two earned runs while striking out eight and walking none. Campos moved into a tie for first place in the Northwest League in strikeouts with 56 and has a home ERA this season of 1.18.
After the Canadians hit the first home run of the game, a solo shot by third baseman Roan Salas, shortstop Marcus Littlewood took the lead back for the Frogs with a two-run homer to right-center. Agudelo added solo home runs in the third and the seventh, tying him for the team lead with six home runs on the season.
The Sox blew open a close 4-2 game with three runs in the seventh inning started off by Agudelo's homer. Right-fielder Mario Yepez extended his home hitting streak to 14 games, the longest such streak in the NWL this season, on an RBI single and later scored from first base on one play that included a wild pitch and two throwing errors by the Canadians.
The win snaps Everett's five-game losing streak to Vancouver, and the AquaSox will send out left-hander Bennett Whitmore (2-5, 5.21 ERA) in the second game of the series against Canadians right-hander Noah Syndergaard (1-0, 0.00 ERA) at 7:05 p.m.
