Arkansas Travelers News Release
NORTH LITTLE ROCK - After losing seven in a row, the Frisco RoughRiders put an end to their skid thanks to a great performance from starting pitcher Blake Beavan (2-1) in a 5-1 win over the Arkansas Travelers. Last Tuesday afternoon in Frisco the Travs touched Beavan for a pair of homers but they couldn't figure out the big right hander Sunday at Dickey-Stephens Park. He retired the first 19 Travs batters while right fielder Joey Butler doubled and tripled to drive in two runs. The loss is the Travs third in four games during this home stand.
The RoughRiders jumped out early against Travs righty Ryan Brasier (1-1) as Marcus Lemon began the game with a single and Butler's one-out RBI double to the deepest part of the park, left-center, gave Frisco a 1-0 lead.
In the third Brasier issued a one-out walk to Matt Lawson. Butler drove him in with a line drive triple to the right field gap. Riders cleanup batter Johnny Whittleman singled to right knocking home Butler, then catcher Kevin Richardson's two-out double put the RoughRiders up 4-0.
Frisco's last run came in the sixth as Renny Osuna doubled off Brasier and scored went second baseman Ryan Mount misplayed a bouncer hit by Guilder Rodriguez.
Beavan cruised through the first six innings registering ten groundouts and four strikeouts. There were no difficult plays for Frisco until the seventh inning when Mount hit a pop fly along the left-field line. Wes Bankston charged towards the line from his position in left field and overran the ball as it fell behind him in fair territory. Mount was awarded a double ending Beavan's no-hit and perfect game bid. But Jeremy Moore followed with a clean base hit off Beavan's hand putting runners at first and second. Paul McAnulty then took away the shutout when his check swing grounder rolled past third base knocking in Mount. Bankston threw McAnulty out at second base as he tried to advance behind the play, and Beavan's night came to close when Walker popped up.
Frisco used lefty Zach Phillips for the final two innings, and he gave up just a bunt single by Clay Fuller in the ninth inning while whiffing two.
Time of game was 2:25 and the paid attendance was 4,416.
The clubs wake up early Monday for an 11:00 morning game in the middle game of the series. Right hander Tim Kiely (1-1, 5.91) gets the ball for the Travs while Frisco counters with right hander Alexi Ogando (0-0, 0.00 ERA). Gates at Dickey-Stephens Park open at 10:00 a.m. and the broadcast of the game on Sports Animal 920 begins at 10:40 a.m.
