Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS- The RoughRiders won both games of their doubleheader against the Naturals Sunday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The doubleheader was scheduled after Saturday's game was rained out.
In game one, Frisco shut out Northwest Arkansas 3-0. Naturals' starter Noel Arguelles worked quickly striking out three straight 'Riders before allowing a solo home run to third baseman Tommy Mendonca giving Frisco a 1-0 lead after two innings of play.
The RoughRiders extended their lead by adding a run in the fifth. Arguelles retired two straight 'Riders before issuing a walk to Guilder Rodriguez who advanced to second on a wild pitch. Rodriguez then scored on an RBI single by Engel Beltre making the score 2-0.
The final run of the game came in the sixth inning. Naturals' reliever Patrick Keating gave up a one-run shot to the Kroger Pool Zone courtesy of Tommy Mendonca.
'Riders starter Neil Ramirez picked up his second win of the season pitching for five innings allowing one hit and no runs while walking one and striking out three. Frisco reliever Ryan Rodebaugh earned his fourth save of the season pitching for two innings allowing one hit and no runs while walking none and striking out two. Naturals' starter Noel Arguelles is tagged with his thirteenth loss of the season pitching for five innings allowing four hits and two runs while walking three and striking out six.
In game two, the 'Riders defeated the Naturals 3-1. Third baseman Alex Buchholz put Frisco on the board in the second after hitting a towering home run that hit the roof of the Winstar Diamond Deck in left field.
The RoughRIders added a run in the fourth after Leury Garcia hit a triple and was brought in on a sac fly. The final run of the night came in the fifth innings. Jared Hoying walked before Ryan Strausborger laid down a bunt. The Naturals were able to throw out Hoying but Strausborger reached first safely. Jared Prince then stepped into the box hitting an RBI double giving Frisco a 3-0 lead.
The combined efforts of Frisco starter Carlos Pimentel and relievers Tim Murphy and Miguel De Los Santos shut down Northwest Arkansas. The three pitchers combined to allow only five hits without allowing a run to come across the plate.
Reliever Wilmer Font was brought in to replace Miguel De Los Santors in the sixth inning and induced a fly out to end the inning. However, Northwest Arkansas scored their lone run of the day off of Font in the seventh. Font struck out Yem Prades before allowing a triple to Whit Merrifield. He then struck out Brian Fletcher before issuing three walks in a row with the third walk bringing in a run. On a questionable ball four call, Jose Felix was ejected from the game. He was replaced by Zach Zaneski and Wilmer Font was placed by Richard Bleier. Bleier then induced a ground out to end the game.
'Riders reliever Tim Murphy picks up his fourth win of the season pitching for two innings allowing four hits and no runs while walking none and striking out one. Frisco reliever Richard Bleier earns his first save of the season pitching for 0.1 innings allowing no hits and no runs with no walks and no strikeouts.
