
Frisco Fifth Does the Trick

FRISCO, TX- The RoughRiders came from behind to defeat Midland 4-2 on Monday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. A three-run fifth gave the "ËRiders the lead which they never relinquished, while Justin Grimm (6-1) earned his sixth victory of the season, to pull into a tie with teammate Barret Loux for most in the Texas League.
Grimm recorded two fly ball outs to open the game, before allowing a single to Michael Choice. He would score one batter later on a Shane Peterson triple to right. It was leftfielder's third three-bagger of the season.
In a one-run hole, Frisco looked to put runs on the board against "ËHounds starter A.J. Griffin (3-1). After stranding the bases loaded in the third inning, the "ËRiders offense gained traction in the fourth. With one out, Ryan Strausborger got aboard on a fielder's choice, and advanced to second on a Val Majewski walk. Facing Zach Zaneski, Griffin jumped ahead in the count 0-2, but the "ËRiders catcher fisted an inside fastball to right allowing Strausborger to score.
The RoughRiders would follow with a three-run fifth. Engel Beltre led off the frame with a double, and score on another two-bagger by Jurickson Profar. Jumping ahead 2-1, Ryan Strausborger added the finishing touches to the inning, drilling a 2-run shot over the left field wall.
Trailing 4-1, Midland added a run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Jeremy Barfield.
Justin Grimm earned the win, throwing six innings, and allowing only one run. He scattered three hits and struck out five. Ross Wolf threw two scoreless innings in relief, and Johan Yan picked up his eighth save. Yan surrendered one run on two hits.
RockHounds started AJ Griffin was tagged with his first loss of the season. Over six frames, Griffin gave up eight hits (season high), four runs, walked two and struck out three.
Frisco plays game four Tuesday morning against the Midland RockHounds. Carlos Pimentel (2-2, 2.52) tosses for the 'Riders, he will be opposed by "ËHounds right-hander Dan Straily (1-2, 2.83).
