Cape Cod Frenzy News Release

Boston Frenzy GM Dan Savage today announced the signing of the team's fifth player to the expansion American Basketball Association franchise. 6'7" small forward Lonnie Harrell is the third player from the And 1 Mix Tape Tour to sign with the Frenzy.

Harrell, who transferred to Northeastern University in Boston in 1994 after a stint at Georgetown under coach John Thompson, was a First-Team All-America East selection. His pro career began with the USBL's New Hampshire Thunder Loons, and then continued with the Washington Congressionals. The Pennsylvania Valleydawgs acquired him during a mid-season trade in 1999.

In between, Harrell has played in a variety of places, including the IBA, where he was an all-star performer, IBL, ABA, and also enjoyed a stint overseas in a highly competitive pro league in Venezuela.

Savage said of Harrell, "Lonnie is an extremely athletic player with good size. He will bring the ball handling and shooting skills of a guard to our forward position and hopefully create some match-up problems."

Harrell joins fellow And 1 tour players Dennis Chism and John Humphrey as three of the teams' first several signings. The first signed, Marques Houtman, is a local product with recent professional experience in Portugal.

"We are nearing an exciting, yet critical period with our franchise." Savage said. "Our veteran camp will begin in a few weeks and we will be inviting some the best available talent to round out our roster. Coach Joe "Jellybean" Bryant and the rest of the Frenzy staff are excited for a competitive camp and to make the final evaluations."
