Cape Cod Frenzy News Release
Rochester, New York: After December 28th's narrow loss to the Rochester Razorsharks, the Cape Cod Frenzy asked for another shot at the defending ABA Champs, and got what they asked for. The Frenzy were asked to fill in for today's game and lost 120-100 at the Blue Cross Arena.
Unlike the previous meeting, where the Frenzy led by twelve points with 4 minutes left, the Frenzy played from behind all game in this contest.
The Frenzy got two quick baskets at the outset, but Rochester's full court press worked early and often as Cape Cod suffered three straight turnovers that resulted in 3D's and a 12-4 lead. This pattern continued until Rochester extended to a 24-8 lead.
Cape Cod went on a 17-8 run highlighted by a Richmond Pittman slam, a Steve Hailey three pointer, and a n acrobatic finger roll by Rob Sanders. The first quarter ended with Rochester up 32-25.
At the start of the second quarter, 2007 ABA All Star selection Rob Sanders went to work. Rich Pittman threw an alleyoop pass over the Razorshark defense to Sanders who threw it home for two. Then Sanders nailed a midrange jumper. Sanders followed by taking his opponent off the dribble for a finger roll. He then created a steal which turned into a fastbreak and dished to a running Pittman for another slam. Suddenly the Razorshark lead was down to just three, at 36-33 at the 4:34 mark!
But Rochester responded with two three pointers, and after a Hailey turnover, New Hampshire native Keith Friel scored on a breakaway lay in to build the lead back to 51-39. The Frenzy came back again to come with 57-52 at the half.
The Razorsharks feeding frenzy began anew in the third quarter with Rochester going on a 30 to 14 run to claim the biggest lead of the game: twenty one points, at 87-66.
The Frenzy got within thirteen in the third quarter but never threatened.
The Frenzy were led in scoring by their All Star, Rob Sanders, with 23 points. Richmond Pittman had 18, while the backcourt of Hailey and McIntosh had 16 a piece.
The Razorsharks leading scorer was James "Mook" Reaves with 20 points.
The Frenzy, who fell to 7-11 on the season, next travel to Newark, New Jersey on Saturday to play the Express. The Frenzy defeated the Express last weekend 104-103.
