Arkansas Aeros News Release
SPRINGDALE - The Arkansas Aeros, the No. 1 team in the American Basketball Association Power Rankings for the last seven weeks, will meet the No. 8-rated Minnesota Ripknees in a Prize Money Play game at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at the All-Star Sports Arena in Springdale.
Prize Money Play games are contests the league recognizes with cash bonuses awarded to participating teams. According to an ABA press release from Jan. 2, 2007, "(These games are) the first time ever in professional basketball that prize money is being awarded for regular season games.
Tickets for the contest are available at any Take 2 Video Stores in Northwest Arkansas and on line at www.arkansasaeros.com.
The 18-2 Aeros are coming off a 127-115 victory Thursday over the Arkansas RiverCatz in Pine Bluff. They have been the ABA's top-rated team for the last seven of eight weeks since the Power Rankings were established in early December.
The Ripknees are 13-6 on the year, having lost three of their last four contests. Minnesota is led by former University of Oklahoma standout Johnnie Gilbert.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
