FLORENCE, Ky - For the second time in three weeks, the Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, got word from Frontier League Headquarters, that one of their own has been named Frontier League Player of the Week. Every-day right fielder, Ricky Ramirez Jr. will take home this week's honor, after helping the Freedom win four of six games, including their second sweep of the season this weekend in Washington, Penn.
Ramirez Jr. posted a phenomenal .438 batting average (7-16) over the last six contests, and reached base at an astounding .625 clip, working seven walks and wearing one hit by pitch.
Included in the second year Freedom outfielder's seven base knocks for the week, were a pair of doubles and his second big-fly of the season, a two-run shot sent to the deepest part of Wild Things Park in right-center field on Saturday night, the blast clearing the second row of signage in the power alley.The lift helped Florence secure an, 8-4, victory over the Washington and setup a sweep opportunity in the finale.
The Deer Park, TX native totaled three RBI over the six-game terror, bringing his total up to seven on the young season. Ramirez Jr. has been a main-stay in the heart of the Freedom lineup, registering 23 of a possible 26 games in the 3, 4, or 5 spot of the batting order.
You'll see Ricky take the field next on Tuesday, June 11 at UC Health Stadium, when the Freedom play host to the Schaumburg Boomers in a battle of first place teams. First pitch of the opener is slated for 6:35 p.m. with gates to open an hour prior at 5:35 p.m.
