Ryan Franklin led off the top of the 13th inning with a home run, leading the Tacoma Rainiers to a 3-2 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Sunday afternoon.

Jonathan Albaladejo (0-1) entered the game to begin the 13th, but his third pitch was sent over the wall in right-center field for Franklin 's fourth home run of the season.

Danny Farquhar then struck out the side in the bottom of the inning to record his sixth save and give the Rainiers a second consecutive win over the Zephyrs.

The two teams were tied at 2-2 from the fifth inning on, but New Orleans missed a pair of opportunities to win it.

An unorthodox play would have provided a run in the seventh inning, when Bryan Petersen was robbed of extra bases on a diving catch by center fielder Nate Tenbrink with runners on first and second. Tacoma attempted to double Gorkys Hernandez off first, and the throw sailed wide when no Rainier covered first, but the ball hit Petersen as he was walking back to the dugout, forcing Wilson Valdez to hold at third rather than score on the throwing error. Jordan Brown then struck out swinging to end the inning.

In the 11th, Paul Gran looped a one-out single to left-center field with runners on first and second, but Ed Lucas was held up at third, and Valdez and Hernandez each struck out with the bases loaded to end the threat. In total, the Zephyrs stranded 11 baserunners .

The Rainiers jumped ahead 2-0 with one run each in the second and third inning. The first was unearned on a dropped fly ball by Petersen, and Alex Liddi doubled the lead with an RBI single.

New Orleans responded with a run in the fourth and fifth frames. Jeff Mathis, on a rehab assignment from the Miami Marlins, made his first appearance with the Z's and lined a solo home run to left in the fourth, and the Zephyrs tied the game on a Hernandez RBI single an inning later.

Zephyrs starter Brian Flynn struck out nine batters without issuing a walk in six innings, and took a no-decision after allowing two runs - on earned - on five hits.

Tacoma starter Jeremy Bonderman worked into the seventh, scattering nine hits while surrendering two runs with three walks. He struck out two.

The Zephyrs and Rainiers continue the series on Monday at 7 p.m.
