Frank Duncan Reflects on All-Star Experience
July 15, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
On July 12, all eyes of the baseball world centered on San Diego, California, as the Major League Baseball All-Star Game attracted the sport's biggest stars.
The next night, those same eyes shifted more than 2,300 miles east to Charlotte, North Carolina.
While their Major League counterparts scattered to across the country, some of baseball's brightest young talents converged on BB&T Ballpark to compete in the annual Triple-A All-Star Game.
Among them, one man donned the red, white, and black of the Indianapolis Indians.
"I wasn't sure what to expect since it was my first one and I hadn't ever really been around too many All-Star Games,' said pitcher Frank Duncan. "But I think the city and the Charlotte Knights did an unbelievable job. They made us feel right at home. They had unbelievable stuff for all the players to do. It's a beautiful ballpark and the whole experience was better than I could have imagined."
Duncan's selection for the honor came only days beforehand, but he embraced every moment the opportunity it provided. From a group luncheon to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, there was no shortage of memorable experiences.
"They pulled out all the stops. It was great to get a chance to meet all the guys you get a chance to compete against every day in this league, and then get a chance to play with them."
Those newly-formed bonds would be quickly put to the test, because soon it was time for Duncan to do what he does best.
Get you out.
The right-hander climbed the mound in the sixth inning with Destin Hood, Kyle Jensen, and Travis Taijeron due up in the inning. Eight pitches flashed towards the plate and it was all over. A perfect frame.
"I'm glad it was shorter, rather than longer," Duncan said with a laugh. "But it was fun to get out there and do my part for the one inning and hold it down for eight pitches. Short and sweet, then get out of there and enjoy the game.
It was a memory I'll have for a long time." This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
