July 15, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Lawrenceville, Ga. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) thumped the Gwinnett Braves (Atlanta Braves) on Friday night, 9-3. The RailRiders' (58-35) 10th straight road win tied the Yankees-era franchise record set when the 2009 unit began the year 10-0 away from PNC Field. The G-Braves (41-52) have lost four straight both to SWB and overall.
The game changed in the second inning when eight RailRiders came to the plate and four scored, snapping a 1-1 draw. The runs crossed on a Pete Kozma groundout, hits from Jose Rosario and Donovan Solano, and Gary Sanchez's sac fly.
Sanchez added a run-scoring double and Tyler Austin singled home a pair in a three-run fourth that chased Gwinnett starter Chris Ellis (1-4).
Austin later added a solo homer that was estimated to have traveled over 400 feet, clearing the 25-foot tall stone retaining wall in left field to begin the seventh. He has three homers over his last seven games and 10 dingers in 35 Triple-A games played this season.
SWB starter Luis Severino (6-1) got the win with his seventh quality start over his last eight nods. He gave up three runs on six hits and one walk over 6.2 innings.
The four-game series continues at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday evening as SWB's Luis Cessa (3-1, 3.22) faces fellow righty Aaron Blair (3-2, 4.26).
The RailRiders return home for a seven-game homestand starting on July 21 at 5:05 p.m. against the Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay Rays). The Thirsty Thursday, presented by Budweiser, will sport $1 Bud Lights and $1 Pepsi products from the opening of the gates at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Thursdays are also College Nights with a $5 lawn walk-up ticket to all college students with college ID. The day starts early with a Tailgate Party at PNC Field from noon until 4 p.m. The event features: live music from Jump the Train from 1 p.m.-4 p.m.; BBQ food and beer specials; free transportation to the Luke Bryan concert; a ticket-upgrade drawing at 4 p.m.; a premium tailgate experience; backyard games and more.
