LAST TIME OUT

ROCHESTER, NY (September 13, 2026) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell 6-4 to the Rochester Red Wings at ESL Ballpark on Sunday afternoon. The RailRiders dropped four out of six in the series as the Red Wings opened a two-game lead with six games to play.

Rochester took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Red Wings loaded the bases with two outs on a single and two walks. Leandro Pineda's infield single plated Seaver King for the early advantage.

Oswaldo Cabrera's 18th home run of the year gave the RailRiders a 2-1 lead in the top of the second, but the Wings evened the game on a pair of hits and an error in the bottom of the inning.

Play halted for one hour and 16 minutes due to rain after three innings. Cabrera gave the RailRiders a 3-2 lead in the fourth when play resumed, hitting his second home run of the day. Rochester again tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Sam Peterson scored on a Buddy Kennedy sac fly.

The Red Wings regained the lead in the fifth inning on a two-out single from Llover Peguero and added two more in the seventh on a two-out double. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre narrowed the deficit in the eighth with a J.C. Escarra RBI knock, but left two on the bases in the inning before leaving the bases loaded in the ninth.

Justin Topa (1-4) was saddled with the loss. Paxton Schultz earned the win, and Justin Lawrence recorded the final out for his second save.

NEWS AND NOTES

IN THE LEAGUE- After back-to-back losses, the RailRiders slip into third place in the International League. They are a game behind Indianapolis and two behind Rochester. The RailRiders are 5-5 in their last ten games while Jacksonville has gone 4-6 and are 11.5 games back. SWB has had a pair of games cancelled, one versus Norfolk and the other Worcester, as did the Jumbo Shrimp with Gwinett and Durham.

HOMER HAPPY - The RailRiders now have 205 home runs after Oswaldo Cabrera added a pair on Sunday. The team currently holds the second most in Triple-A, behind the league leading Saints with 247. Fernández leads the way tallying 26 on the summer, a dozen hitters have double digits, and 30 different players have at least one on the books for the SWB. The season record is 219 long balls, done back in 2023.

RODRÍGUEZ REP- Yankees #3 prospect Elmer Rodríguez has made 20 starts this season for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In his last outing, he lowered his ERA to 2.48 in Triple-A through 101.2 innings pitched, while striking out 102 batters. However, during the appearance he allowed five runs, although all of them unearned, and all in the fifth frame, thanks to some walks and a pair of errors. One was tagged to him on a throw from a sacrifice bunt. After making six total starts up in the big leagues for the Yankees, he holds a 5.40 ERA in the Majors. Rodríguez was picked up in a trade with Boston for catcher Carlos Narváez in 2024.

CABBY'S CLUTCH- Oswaldo Cabrera has upped his batting average to .289 on the season in 121 games. The switch-hitter has recorded 134 hits to lead the team, bolstered by 14 doubles and 19 home runs. Cabrera began entire season on Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's roster while playing in eight different positions, but had one stint up in New York.

THE REYZEL-MAN- Eric Reyzelman tossed two clean frames last week to move his scoreless streak to 8.1 consecutive innings. Through five outings, that began on August 25, he has not let up an earned run. Reyzelman was a fifth-round pick by the Yankees in 2022.

REMEMBER THAT?- The RailRiders and the Jumbo Shrimp faced off at the end of last season in the International League Championship. Jacksonville had won the first half of 2025 while the SWB took the second. The RailRiders won game one 5-4 but fell in back-to-back contests to end the three-game series. The Marlins' highest affiliate went on to win the Triple-A National Championship Game 8-7 over Las Vegas. Jacksonville utilized 11 different pitchers and scored a pair of runs off of a Jacob Berry homer in the bottom of the ninth to walk it off.

DUKE'S RECORD PERFORMANCE - Duke Ellis set a new single season record with 52 stolen bases on the season. He broke the record of 44 set by Tommy Barrett in 1989. Barrett did so in 120 games, whereas Ellis marked his in 85 contests. Ellis also holds the franchise record for 88 total with Scranton/Wilkes-Barres. The prior record was held by Nick Punto who stole 82 bags in 263 games. Ellis's personal record is 57 in a single year done back in 2024.
