
Fowles Wins WNBA Peak Performer Award for Top Rebounding Performance in 2013

CHICAGO, September 18, 2013 """"Chicago Sky starting center Sylvia Fowles has won the 2013 WNBA Peak Performer Award for rebounding, the league announced Wednesday. Fowles averaged 11.5 per game throughout the regular season to finish as the league's top rebounder this season.
Each year the WNBA presents the Peak Performer Award to the players who lead the league in a variety of statistics including scoring, rebounding and assists. To honor each winner, who has proven to stand out amongst a league of top tier competition, a trophy made by Tiffany is awarded.
Fowles won for her accomplishments as a dominant rebounder throughout the 2013 regular season. She was a multi-month league leader in rebounds per game, outdoing three-time defending rebound champion Tina Charles.
As the Sky faced the Connecticut Sun and their reigning MVP, Charles, Fowles had her best games of the season. On May 31, Fowles took down 22 rebounds and offered 24 points. On August 18 against the Sun, Fowles was again a force in the paint taking down 21 rebounds.
Fowles had 20 double-digit rebounding games this season. She had her 22nd career 15- plus rebound game after taking down 18 rebounds against the Atlanta Dream on September 13. In that statistic, she is tied for third on the WNBA's all-time list. With a 9.8 rebound per game career average, Fowles ranks second all-time. Her 369 total rebounds this season is also the third highest single season total in league history.
Atlanta Dream's Angel McCoughtry and San Antonio Silver Stars' Danielle Robinson also took home Peak Performer Awards for scoring and assists respectively.
Fowles will return to the court on Friday, September 20 at the Sky take on the reigning WNBA champions, the Indiana Fever at Allstate Arena for the first game of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The 6 p.m. CT game will air locally on The U Too and nationwide on NBA TV.
