Using a big inning early the Calgary Vipers defeated the Tijuana Big Horn Sheep 7-2 before 1413 fans at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Calgary scored four runs in the second frame and went ahead 7-0 before surrendering two late tallies. Vipers' starter Mark Michael (2-1) threw five scoreless innings without giving up a walk and striking out five for the win. With the victory the Snakes swept the four-game series with the Sheep and improve to 4-1 on the second half and 27-21 on the Golden Baseball League season.
On the mound both Joe Sergent and Brant Stickel threw scoreless innings while at the plate Guillermo Reyes led the way with three hits and two runs both scored and batted in.
In the bottom of the second inning Calgary scored first as Drew Miller singled, Caonabo Cosme walked, Guillermo Reyes doubled in both, Luis Taveras advanced Reyes to third base with a ground ball, Mark Michael collected a run batted in with a ground out, Jonny Kaplan walked, and Jorge Mejia doubled in a fourth run of the frame for a 4-0 advantage.
Brent Metheny added to the Vipers lead in the fifth inning with his seventh home run of the season for a 5-0 score.
Two more runs were added in the sixth frame by Calgary as Reyes walked, Taveras singled, Dillon O'Krane knocked in one with a base hit, Kaplan walked to load the bases, and Mejia hit a sacrifice fly for a 7-0 lead.
Tijuana got onto the scoreboard in the eighth as Jamie McGraw walked and Kit Pellow launched a two-run shot. Before the game the former Viper Pellow was presented with his 2009 Championship Ring.
The Vipers now welcome the Yuma Scorpions to Calgary and Foothills Stadium for their first and only visit of the season on Monday July 19th, Tuesday July 20th, and Wednesday July 21st with all games starting at 7:05 PM MDT. Promotions during the three-game set include Toonie Tuesday with concession items for $2.00 and Weiner Wednesday with hotdogs sold for $1.00.

On Tuesday August 3rd and Wednesday August 4th both days from 9:00 AM till 12:00 PM MDT children ages 8-14 can be a part of the Calgary Vipers roster. During the two clinics children will receive instruction from professional coaches and veteran players as they play a live game at Foothills Stadium.
