Four-Run Ninth Not Enough in Fifth Straight Loss

Modesto, C.A. - The Modesto Nuts mounted a late rally but fell shy in a 9-8 loss to the Stockton Ports on Friday night at John Thurman Field.

Down five entering the ninth, Drew Weeks walked to start the inning for the Nuts (8-13). After a strike out, Shane Hoelscher came up with a single. Omar Carrizales hit a weak groundball to second. Joe Bennie tried to apply the tag to the runner going to second but could not. Carrizales beat the ensuing throw to first for the RBI fielder's choice. Emerson Jimenez followed with a RBI to knock Rob Huber out of the game. Kyle Finnegan (S, 1/1) followed and gave up a two-run single to Forrest Wall to put the tying run and base. Finnegan got Rogers to fly out and preserve the Ports (9-12) triumph.

Yency Almonte (L, 2-1) struggled on the mound for the Nuts. The righty surrendered 10 hits over 4.2 innings leading to six runs.

Wes Rogers clubbed a solo home run in the loss. Wall drove in three runs. Weeks reached twice on a walk and clubbed a RBI triple.

The Nuts will try to end their five-game losing streak in the middle affair of this three game set starting at 7:05 p.m. on Friday night.
