Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Bakersfield Blaze got a gem from southpaw starter Anthony Misiewicz (1-2) and held off a ninth inning Inland Empire rally for 4-3 win at San Manuel Stadium on Friday. Misiewicz carried a no-hitter into the sixth and finished with eight innings of two hit, one walk work. The former Michigan State star struck out four and only used 99 pitches to cover his effort.
Alex Klonowski (1-4) was stellar on the mound for Inland Empire (5-17) and was matching zeroes in the run column until he got bitten with two outs in the seventh by Bakersfield DH Chantz Mack who hit a towering homer to right and gave the Blaze a 2-0 lead. Caleb Adams led off the bottom of the frame with a single against Misiewicz but the southpaw got a double play the next batter. Bakersfield scored two unearned runs in the top of the eighth against IE reliever Jordan Piche' to make it 4-0. The Blaze (9-12) would need those runs.
The Blaze turned it over to the pen in the ninth and the game got dicey. Reliever Ronald Dominguez walked Trever Allen to open the frame and then allowed a single to Tim Arakawa. Allen was Inland Empire's first runner to get past first base until that point. Caleb Adams then tagged a triple off the wall to make it 4-2. Taylor Ward singled to knock in Adams making it 4-3 with no outs and extending Ward's hit streak to a team-best eight games. Bakersfield lifted Dominguez and brought in southpaw Ryan Horstman. He retired the three batters he faced and stranded the potential tying runner in Ward at third base to earn his first save of the year.
The series continues on Saturday at 7:05. It can be heard live at 66ers.com and 1570 AM KPRO. Saturday marks the first post-game Fireworks Extravaganza of the season, tickets are available at 66ers.com.
