The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, lost to the Indianapolis Indians, 6-2, on Wall of Fame night Saturday in Syracuse. The Indians scored four runs in the ninth inning to break open a tie game.

After three scoreless innings, Indianapolis (76-52) scored first in the top of the fourth inning. Jose Tabata led off the frame with an infield single on a bounding grounder that hopped over the head of Syracuse starter John Lannan. Matt Hague followed with a bloop single to right field that put runners on first and second base. Two outs later, with runners on second and third, Brandon Boggs singled to left field to drive home Tabata and Hague and give the Indians a 2-0 lead.

Syracuse (62-67) came right back in the bottom of the inning. Mark Teahen legged out his 27th double of the year on a ground ball up the middle to start the inning. The next batter, Zach Walters, drilled a pitch from Indians starter Phil Irwin over the wall in right-center field for a two-run home run. Walters' first career Triple-A homer knotted things up at two.

After the offensive outburst in the fourth, both offenses were silenced again through the eighth inning, as Lannan worked into the seventh inning for the Chiefs before giving way to the bullpen, and Daniel McCutchen pitched four scoreless innings out of the pen for the Indians.

The Indians grabbed the game's decisive runs in the top of the ninth inning. Pinch-hitter Drew Sutton walked with one out against Syracuse reliever Hassan Pena. Atahualpa Severino then entered for the Chiefs. Alex Presley greeted the left-hander with a single to put runners on first and second base. Then, Brock Holt hit a ground ball to Teahen at first. Teahen overthrew second, allowing Sutton to score the go-ahead run for Indianapolis. One out later, the Indians added some insurance. Hague singled to drive in Presley and Dallas McPherson followed with a two-run triple to left-center field to put the Indians up 6-2.

Doug Slaten pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning to shut the door on the Chiefs.

Before the game, Dan Clark, Frank Ricelli, Philip Ryder, Scott McGregor, and Stu Pederson were inducted to the Syracuse Baseball Wall of Fame in a special ceremony.

The Chiefs and Indians meet again Sunday evening in Syracuse at 5:00. Kevin Pucetas is scheduled to make his first start for Syracuse. Indianapolis will counter with Jeff Locke.
