Four Ponies' Pitchers Spin Shutout Against Reading on Saturday

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (38-27, 73-61) used four pitchers that combined for a two-hit shutout to defeat the Reading Fightin Phils, 6-0, on Saturday night at Mirabito Stadium.

Benito García struck out four batters and allowed just one hit and one walk over 4.1 innings in the first Double-A start of his career. Trey McLoughlin (2-1) followed with 1.2 hitless innings and a strikeout. Matt Minnick tossed two scoreless innings and Daison Acosta closed out the game with a strikeout in the ninth.

Binghamton scored in the first inning and kept adding throughout the game. Luisangel Acuña hit a single and reached second base on an error. With Jett Williams at the plate, Acuña stole third base for his 57th stolen base of the year. Williams drove in Acuña with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.

The Ponies added another in the second on an RBI double from Rowdey Jordan that scored JT Schwartz to make it 2-0.

In the sixth inning, Williams worked a one-out walk. With Williams running on the pitch, Drew Gilbert hit a single and an error allowed Williams to score and Gilbert to get to third to make it 3-0. Schwartz later drove in Gilbert with an RBI groundout to make it 4-0.

In the seventh, Reading (31-36, 59-76) pitchers issued five walks in the frame and two runs came in to score. Jordan scored on a wild pitch and Hayden Senger drew an RBI walk to make it 6-0.

The Rumble Ponies finish their series with the Fightin Phils on Sunday at Mirabito Stadium in the regular season finale. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. and pregame coverage will begin at 12:50 p.m. on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Postgame Notes: Thomas singled in the fifth to extend his hitting streak to 11 games...Williams drew his 104th walk of the season, which is the second-most in Minor League Baseball...Williams recorded his second RBI at the Double-A level...Jordan has driven in nine runs over his last five games...Gilbert extended his hitting streak to six games...Binghamton drew nine walks...It marked the Ponies' 14th shutout of the season.
