Four Lightning to Have Starring Role in Sioux Falls

January 7, 2003 - Continental Basketball Association 2 (CBA 2)
Rockford Lightning News Release

The Rockford Lightning own the American Conference's best record at 14-7. So it should not come as any surprise to find the Lightning with a strong representation for the 2002-03 All-Star Game to take place January 14th at Sioux Falls.

Guard Ronnie Fields, Forward Albert White and Center Livan Pyfrom will all be representing the American Conference in the CBA's mid-season classic. All three players were selected by a vote of coaches and beat writers from each CBA city. All three will be making their first all-star game appearance.

Fields (Farragut High School '96) has started every game for the Lightning this year, leading the CBA in steals (2.8 per game) and ranking 9th in the league in scoring (19.4 ppg). Fields has hit two game winning shots this season in the final 5 seconds and he has led the team in points in four games, including last night's 26 point effort in the Lightning's 127-115 victory over Grand Rapids. Fields hit 11-of-16 field goals and added 10 rebounds 5 assists and 5 steals on the night.

Pyfrom (Creighton '01) is the only CBA player to rank in the top three in 4 different statistical categories. The 7'0" center ranks 2nd in both field goal percentage and blocked shots, and he places thirds in both total rebounds and offensive rebounds. Like Fields, Pyfrom has started all 21 games and he has topped the team in rebounds in 13 of those contests.

Albert White (Missouri '99) is the CBA's third leading scorer averaging 22.6 points per game. White leads the CBA in points per minute and is the only Lightning player to have lead the team in points rebounds and assists in separate games. White has scored 19 or more points in each of the last 11 games.

Chris Daleo earns the right to coach the American Conference all-stars after guiding the Lightning to a conference best 14-7 record and 4.3 quarter point average. Daleo is the first rookie CBA coach to serve as head coach for the All-Star Game since Brendan Suhr in 1996. The last Lightning leader to serve as All-Star game head coach was Charley Rosen in 1989. Under Daleo, the Lightning is threatening the all-time CBA record for points per game. The Lightning has averaged 131 points per game and has reached the 120 plateau in 20 of their 22 games so far this season.

Rounding out the American Conference squad are Jerald Honeycutt, Larry Ayuso and Eric Murdock of Grand Rapids; Oliver Miller and Bryant Notree of Gary, and Corey Hightower and James Head of Great Lakes. The National Conference all-stars will be announced on Tuesday.
