Collecting only four hits the Calgary Vipers (23-17) were defeated 4-2 by the Strong Warriors of Maui (15-20) at Iron Maehara Stadium in Maui, Hawaii. The Vipers collected nine free passes in the game but couldn't get a clutch hit and stranded 11 men on base. One bad inning handed Garret Holleran (2-5) the loss as he gave up all four runs in the second inning. Calgary's lone two tallies came in the eighth inning but former Viper Matthew Jay Broughton (1-3) recorded the win by only allowing those runs against in seven and a third innings. Clayton Uyechi (1) earned his first save after coming into the ninth inning with the tying runs on base and retiring three straight batters. Drew Miller increased his on-base streak to a league best 39 games. The Vipers drop to two and a half games back in third place in the North Division.
This series in Maui to take on the Strong Warriors continues on Thursday July 7th at 10:35 PM.
The Vipers will return home to Calgary and Foothills Stadium in Tuesday July 12th at 6:30 to take on the Edmonton Capitals.
The Calgary Vipers will be hosting three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USAA Pride and the Tennessee Diamonds August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.
