Four Gladiators test movie industry

Las Vegas, NV, May 16, 2005 – Las Vegas Gladiators' lineman Wilky Bazile, Hardy Mitchell and Lucas Yarnell along with wide receiver/linebacker Coco Blalock spent the 2005 off-season as actors in the remake of ‘The Longest Yard' opening on Friday, May 27, 2005.

The movie, which was originally released in 1974, is a story of a former professional quarterback and a former collegiate head coach who are both in prison. The two put together a team of inmates to play a football game against a team made of the prison guards. The remake is being produced by Happy Madison Productions, owned by Adam Sandler.

The inmates' quarterback, Paul Crewe, was played by Burt Reynolds in the original. In the remake, Sandler will play the role of Crewe, while Reynolds will be cast as the inmates' coach. Others starring in the movie include Chris Rock, former professional wrestler Goldberg, rapper Nelly, and former NFL stars Michael Irvin, Bill Romanowski, and Brian Bosworth.

Blalock and Mitchell worked as football doubles for Nelly and Goldberg respectively. While Bazile and Yarnell were extras throughout the movie.

Aside from the Gladiator players, other notable AFL athletes who were involved in the movie included Georgia Force offensive specialist Chris Jackson, Rattlers' wide receiver/defensive back Evan Hlavacek and New York Dragons' lineman Marcus Owen, just to name a few.

The Gladiators return home to take on Arizona in the final game of the regular season on Sunday, May 22, to take on the Rattlers at the Thomas & Mack Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. PT and can be heard on ESPN Radio 920 with Andrew Siciliano and Mike Pritchard calling the game.
