
VooDoo QB Andy Kelly named AFL Offensive Player of the Week

New Orleans VooDoo QB Andy Kelly's standout performance in the team's 69-68 victory over the Austin Wranglers last Saturday earned him Arena Football League Offensive Player of the Week honors for Week 16, it was announced by the league today.
Kelly completed 34-of-46 passes for 361 yards with nine touchdown passes in the team's victory over Austin, setting VooDoo franchise highs in passing yards and touchdown passes. Kelly hit WR/LB Thabiti Davis with a three-yard scoring strike with 1:37 remaining to give the VooDoo the victory.
Kelly has played in important role for the VooDoo offense, which currently boasts the second ranked passing offense in the Arena Football League. This season Kelly has completed 443-of-662 passes for 4,465 yards with 93 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions. The 12-year AFL veteran is currently leading the league in attempts and completions and TD passes, is ranked second in passing yardage, and fourth in completion percentage (66.9). Kelly has already set the AFL season record for attempts and completions. He has set a new personal career-high for passing yardage and has tied his career-high in touchdown passes. Kelly (4,465) could break former Dallas Desparados QB Jim Kubiak's record for most passing yards (4,762) in the season finale at Orlando on Sunday.
Kelly previously earned the league's Offensive Player of the Week award following his performances in Weeks 2 and 3 and won the Offensive Player of the Month award in February. This marks the 11th time that the former Volunteer has earned the Offensive Player of the Week award.
The VooDoo return to action this Sunday, May 22, when they travel to face the Orlando Predators at the TD Waterhouse Centre at 2:00 p.m., in a battle between two 9-6 teams fighting for their playoff lives. The game will be broadcast in 75 percent of the nation on NBC (WDSU-6 locally). and can be heard live on WSMB 1350 AM.
