Numerous AFL records on verge of being broken
May 17, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
NEW YORK â Entering the final week of the 2005 regular season, many AFL single-season records are on the verge of being broken. Arizona OS SIAHA BURLEY has caught 43 touchdown passes and is four away from breaking the current single-season record of 46 (four players tied at 46). Grand Rapids QB MICHAEL BISHOP (423) needs seven rushing yards to break MAJOR HARRIS' record of 429. San Jose QB MARK GRIEB (4,568) and New Orleans QB ANDY KELLY (4,465) could break JIM KUBIAK's record for most passing yards (4,762). This season, Kelly has already set new records for passing attempts (662) and completions (443).
In 2004, Colorado DS RASHAD FLOYD set a new single-season record for tackles at 122.0. Entering Week 17, Floyd (119.5) needs just 3.0 to break the record for tackles for the second consecutive season. Los Angeles OL/DL SILAS DEMARY is in position to break one of the Leagues oldest records. Demary (11.5) needs 2.0 sacks to break CRAIG WALL's record of 13.0, which was set in 1987.
Georgia WR/DB DEREK LEE and OS TROY BERGERON are in position to break the single-season records for most receptions and receiving yards by a rookie, respectively. Lee (103) needs three receptions to break MICHAEL BAKER's record of 105 receptions by a rookie and Bergeron (1,262) is 74 yards shy of breaking ORONDE GADSDEN's rookie record for receiving yards (1,335).
