April 16, 2018 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release
LYNCHBURG, VA-The Frederick Keys committed four errors and were limited to just four hits in a 5-0 loss to the Lynchburg Hillcats on Monday night at City Stadium. It marked the third shutout loss suffered by the orange and black in 2018.
Defensive miscues contributed to the first three Hillcats runs. In the third, Gavin Collins doubled with one out off Ofelky Peralta and advanced to third on a missed catch error by Preston Palmeiro. Anthony Miller followed with a sac-fly to make it a 1-0 contest.
In the fourth, Jodd Carter reached on an error by third baseman Jomar Reyes, while a single, a sac-bunt and a two-bagger by Mitch Longo extended the home team's lead. Luke Wakamatsu then scored in the sixth following a throwing error by Chris Clare. Overall, the Keys four errors were one short of a season-high.
Making his second start of the year, Jake Paulson tossed six scoreless innings of four-hit baseball. Needing only 70 pitches during that time, Paulson (1-1) tallied 17 of his 18 outs via groundballs in a winning effort.
Lynchburg completed its scoring in the seventh. Following a single by Trenton Brooks and a double by Carter, Logan Ice racked up a two-run single off Francisco Jimenez. In the game, the Hillcats finished with a season-best 10 hits.
Micah Miniard earned the save for the Hillcats tossing three scoreless innings of relief. He walked one and struck out two. Peralta (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up two unearned runs on three hits in four innings. The 20-year-old walked four and struck out five.
